Our client required a suitable solution to help ensure safe entry into their sites potable water tank.
Prior to our team installing the water tank inspection hatch, the only internal access into the water tank was via the hatch in the roof of the tank.
As the water tank was three metres high its former access route ensured a considerably high confined spaces risk when working inside the tank.
Furthermore, in the highly unlikely event an operative should become incapacitated within the water tank, it would be become very difficult to carry out any kind of rescue procedure.
Regardless of the fact the operative would be wearing a safety harness and be attached to a tripod and winch system.
Therefore, to help lower the confined spaces risk the decision was made to install a low level access man way hatch closer to the base of the water tank.
This solution ensures future maintenance works such as water tank clean and disinfections can be carried safely and remain complaint with ACoP L8 guidelines.
