Echo Square Services recently completed the water tank repair and full refurbishment of a sectional GRP water storage tank in Warrington.
The existing water tanks internal surfaces were beginning to delaminate and the majority of the mild steel fittings had corroded beyond repair.
Due to the water storage tank being in constant use it wasn’t possible to take the system offline to carry out the required works without installing a temporary mains bypass.
Prior to attending site operatives assessed the feasibility of installing a mains bypass which could keep up with the sites cold water usage.
The decision was then made to install the bypass allowing for both water tank compartments to be taken offline at the same time.
This ensured our operatives were able to complete the tank relining works without causing any disruption to the sites cold water down services.
Our operatives initially extensively prepared all internal surfaces utilising mechanical hand tools.
Areas where heavy delamination had occurred were repaired and reinforced to increase the water tanks structural integrity.
All tank joints were also sealed and reinforced to ensure they could withstand the natural movement of the storage tank when filled with water.
The heavily corroded mild steel fittings were also removed and replaced with stainless steel fittings and retorqued.
With the completion of the water tanks preparation our operatives were in position to apply two coats of WRAS approved drinking water polyurethane to all surfaces.
The coating system was left to cure prior to refilling and disinfecting the water tank and placing the tank fed system back online.
