We were recently contacted by a Legionella control company to assist in the internal water tank reline and refurbishment of two GRP cold water storage tanks in a hospital in Surrey.
Each cold water storage tank was suffering from internal gel coat failures on multiple panels which subsequently led to the growth of black spore mould, and osmosis blistering which is non-compliant with ACOP L8 guidelines.
The hospital required their water supply to remain online at all times, therefore we installed a temporary cold water storage tank which was connected directly to the existing pump set.
The existing water tanks cold water down services pipework was also not compliant with WRAS guidelines as the outlets were fitted to the side of each water tank.
Our operatives therefore removed the existing outlets and pipework, filled in, and capped off the remaining dead legs prior to rerouting new pipe work from the existing pumps to the underside of each cold water storage tank.
Both cold water storage tanks were then manually prepared utilising small hand tools prior to applying the first coat of WRAS approved Grey ES 988 DWPU polyurethane followed by a second coating of Blue ES 988 DWPU.
The temporary tank was then removed from site and both newly relined water tanks were disinfected prior to being filled and placed back online.
