Echo Square Services were asked to provide a solution to repair and reline a galvanised steel feed and expansion cold water storage tank which was found to be in very poor condition, with advanced corrosion, heavy sludge deposits, and leaking from the base.
To make things worse, access to the water tank was very difficult due to existing pipework obstructing our operatives.
The water tank was initially scraped down to remove the delaminating steel, the debris and sludge was then bagged up for removal from site.
All internal surfaces were then manually prepared to remove corrosion deposits and provide a surface profile of 0.75mm to accept the new polyurethane coating.
Following the preparation of all internal surfaces, extensive metal wastage was evident with large holes exposed all over the water tank, particularly at the waterline.
These holes were repaired using a combination of metal repair putty and fiberglass.
All joints were given a ‘stripe coat’ of ES 988 DWPU to build up the coating thickness at the critical seams of circa 2mm.
A full base coat was then applied to all internal surfaces at a nominal thickness of 300- 500 micron.
Once cured, a second coat of blue polyurethane was applied to all internal surfaces
The water tank reline was then complete and the system was put back into circulation.
