Echo Square Services Ltd recently completed the full internal refurbishment and tank reline of a sectional GRP CWST in central Manchester.
The GRP cold water storage tank was leaking from numerous joints between the water tanks GRP panels.
The majority of the water storage tanks internal bolts were heavily corroded and heavy staining was present on the GRP panels internal surfaces.
The GRP water tanks existing hollow roof supports were also non-compliant with ACOP L8 guidelines.
Hollow lid supports allow for the ingress of water which could potentially become stagnant within the hollow tubes, creating ideal conditions for the proliferation of Legionella bacteria.
Furthermore, the water tank had no existing safe route of access, which increased the confined spaces risks associated with our tank relining works and all future water tank maintenance.
Our operatives initially installed a GRP low level access hatch to ensure safer entry into the cold water storage tank.
The hollow GRP roof supports were then replaced with solid WRAS approved GRP roof supports.
Our operatives were then in a position to repair the water tanks joints and prepare all internal surfaces with mechanical hand tools.
Once all internal surfaces were adequately prepared, two coats of ES 988 DWPU WRAS approved polyurethane was applied to all internal surfaces.
Once cured, the completely refurbished cold water storage tank was disinfected inline with ACOP L8 guidelines prior to being placed back online.
