Water storage tank lining and repair of a leaking water tank recently completed in a prestigious London university.
Our client had been forced to take the tank offline just before Christmas due to the water tank leaking heavily, causing significant damage to the floors below.
The sectional galvanised steel cold water storage tank already had a butyl liner in place, which had failed due to water ingress occurring underneath the rubber liner.
Furthermore, it became apparent once the liner was removed by our operatives that the tank had been previously poorly coated with a blue epoxy resin by another contractor.
The existing epoxy coating underneath the liner had been applied directly to the tanks unprepared surfaces resulting in it completely failing.
Subsequently, this lead onto pin holes occurring in the galvanised steel surfaces which caused water to leak from the tank in numerous places.
Water Storage Tank Lining Application
Our operatives initially removed the failed butyl liner and ensured it was disposed of via a licensed waste management company.
We then removed the failed blue epoxy coating from all internal surfaces which exposed advanced corrosion underneath, as well as various pin holes which required repairing with a metal repair solution.
Finally, we were in a position to repair the water tanks internal substrate with specialist mechanical hand tools.
Now the water tanks preparation was complete our operatives applied our WRAS approved polyurethane coating to all critical areas prior to applying two coats of the same system to all internal surfaces.
Following the completion of the tank refurbishment our engineers clean and disinfected the structure before placing the system back online
