Galvanised Steel Tank Lining Kent

Galvanised Steel Tank lining project recently completed at a school in Kent.

The cold water storage tank was completely dilapidated and urgently required refurbishing and relining.

The storage tank was over forty years old and throughout that time period the internal surfaces had never been treated with any kind of protective coating system which subsequently caused the tank to severely corrode.

Our customer urgently required a cost effective and sustainable  solution to ensure the tank was brought up to safe water standards and compliant with ACOP L8 guidelines.

After reviewing the option to carry out a water tank replacement it was decided that a tank reline would be the most practical and sustainable solution.

This was decision was made due to the fact the water tank was located in a very restricted area ensuring it would’ve been almost impossible to remove the storage tank without causing major disruption.

Tank Lining Process

Due to the severely corroded condition of all internal surfaces of the cold water storage tank particular attention was required to ensure all corrosion deposits were removed.

Our operatives then extensively prepared all internal surfaces utilising mechanical hand tools

As this process involved abrasively aggravating the internal surfaces this process revealed additional holes in the storage tanks side walls.

These holes were repaired utilising a metal epoxy filler, any additional water tank repairs were also carried out as part of the preparation process.

With the storage tank now fully prepared the internal surfaces were in a position to accept our WRAS approved polyurethane coating system.

Our operatives initially striped coated all joints and critical areas prior to applying two full coats of ES 988 DWPU coating to all surfaces.

With the water tank reline complete.

The final step required the storage tank to be clean and disinfected prior to placing the cold water down services back online.
