Sprinkler tank lining recently completed by one of our teams at a prestigious site in central London.
The GRP sprinkler tank was divided into two compartments which both supplied the sites fire suppression system.
Both water tank compartments were leaking and required a full water tank repair and refurbishment
It was critical that not during any stage of the tank relining process the fire suppression system was to be isolated, as it was crucial to ensure the building had sufficient fire sprinkler cover at all times.
Therefore it was decided that our team would carry out the tank lining of each compartment individually, ensuring the fire sprinkler system was online throughout the entire tank reline project.
Sprinkler Tank Lining Process
Our team initially drained the first GRP sprinkler tank compartment and completed a full water tank clean to remove all sediment from the tanks base.
The next step required all internal joints and seams to be reinforced and sealed, and all tank panels to be extensively prepared using mechanical hand tools.
The mechanical preparation of the tanks panels increases their surface profile creating the essential conditions required for our operatives to apply our tank coating system.
With the preparation complete, all joints and seams were stripe coated prior to applying two full coats of WRAS approved polyurethane to all internal surfaces
Water Tank Side Access Hatch Installation.
Once cured, our operatives were in a position to complete the refurbishment of the storage tank by replacing an existing tank panel with a low level access hatch.
The installation of side access hatch’s help create a safer way for or operatives to carry out future maintenance and repairs within the the storage tanks confined space by removing the necessity of accessing the tank from above.
To compete the sprinkler tank lining project, the access hatch was securely bolted into place and the storage tank was refilled.
The first compartment was then placed back into service and the works above were repeated for the second compartment.
