A common issue with GRP cold water storage tanks old and new is the growth of black spores beneath the GRP gel coat.
In accordance with ACoP L8 HSG274 these black spores are deemed as non-compliant and must be removed.
Simply cleaning the spores off a cold-water storage tanks internal surfaces only temporarily removes the spores therefore the only long term solution available would be to carry out a costly cold water storage tank replacement or carry out a more cost effective and long term solution involving the relining of the cold water storage tanks internal surfaces
Below is an example of a GRP cold water storage tank we recently relined due to issues with black sporing behind the GRP gel coat.
